India’s Independence Day is near and I want to share some of my favorite Indian food. When I first came to India I wasn’t able to eat almost anything and I thought that I will die of hunger, but slowly my palate has adjusted to the new textures and flavours and now I simply crave for some of these food.
South Indian Thali
I love South Indian food, dosas, vadas, idlis, and every dish that contains coconut milk. And the best way to treat myself with all these wonderful flavours is with the South Indian Thali. There you can get korma (yamee), rasam, sambhar, coconut chutney, bahji, dal, dahi, papad, poori/paratha, rice, and even halwa as dessert. When I was in South India I had the Thali on a banana leaf and the flavours were just amazing. You might be thinking how I can eat all that! hehe, well actually they normally serve a small amount of each and I normally order 1 thali for 2.
Aam Ka Achaar – Mango Pickle
Since one of my friends gifted me a jar of homemade mango pickle, I just became a fan of it. It was mildly spiced and I just loved that tangy taste with the masalas. One of my favorites! I want to learn how to make my own too. I love eating it with parathas, but also with anything else.
Papad
These thin crispy and crunchy kind of flat tortillas are just delicious. People normally eat them fried but I like to eat them roasted most of the time. It’s so versatile that sometimes I take it as a snack with some namkeens, salad or sauce. There’s always a package of medium masala papad at home.
Matar Paneer
There are so many vegetarian dishes in India that I am just amazed about it and also love trying them. The crisp of the fried paneer (fresh cheese) mixed with green peas and masalas it’s just a perfect combination and also so simple to cook. The popular paneer can also be dipped in a spinach sauce and it tastes just awesome.
Butter Chicken
A very rich but delicious dish. The flavour of the sauce is finger lickingĀ and definitely the star of the dish. It’s a must when going out for Indian Food and I also give it a try at home sometimes!
The list of yummy food goes on… wow now I’m feeling very hungry…
I am a food enthusiastic and there are so many dishes of the Indian cuisine that I want to taste. Any recommendations? I would like to hear what are your favorite Indian dishes.

I think you should try out the Aloo Paratha. I love it when my mom makes it. I eat I guess 8-9 or may be more. Normally I eat 2 rotis but when it comes to Aloo Paratha I can’t resist. So try this out it’s good specially with cold milk.
Wow you really eat that much? Lol, those must be very good parathas, I like them too, so I’ll give them a try with some cold milk
i think the Aaloo parantha with dahi is also a good food. I love it on sunday with my family. Also Try Rajma Rice with some Dahi Rayata..

Nice suggestions Rahul. I do like Rajma rice very much
hey, its good to know that you developed a taste for Indian food. We add an Indian, spicy touch to everything we cook, be it Chinese cuisine or Italian, that could be harsh on tongue for foreigners. But we love it that way. And winter is the season for foodies!!
Apart from aloo paratha, there are gobhi(cauliflower), mooli (radish), methi, onion parathas too that are yummy with achar and curd.Veg pulavs, chicken/mutton/prawn biryani, and veg/egg fried rice, chhole, kofte, mushroom curry, non-veg curries and kebabs are worth giving a try.Idli, Dosa or wada with coconut chutney and sambar taste awesome .
Thanks for your comment Soumya. Yes, I have noticed that Indian masalas are also added in Chinese and Italian food. I enjoy the masalas in Indian cuisine. I’ll have to give a try to gobhi, onion paratha and kofte
