Yesterday I was watching the premiere of MasterChef India. I am a big fan of the Australian version of MasterChef and therefore I was really curious about this new show.
But after watching the first episode I was quite disappointed. First of all the host was Akshay Kumar, an Indian actor. I don’t know much about him but I know for sure he is not a chef, so I don’t know under which basis he can be one of the judges of the show. I don’t think he has the qualifications for being a food judge, give a food review or even give a MasterChef class.
Another reason for my disappointment was the huge amount of drama in the show, and when I say huge, I mean HUGE. Endless crying and little focus on what’s the original show about… FOOD.
I really don’t have much expectations about this show and I can’t certainly bear a cooking show turned into a Indian soap opera with fans of Akshay Kumar giving him flowers, crying for him or putting his name in their mobiles to pretend that he is calling instead of the husband… that was weird.
The quality and presentation of the dishes were not quite at the level of a competition either. But I think this should change during the next episodes… I think.
Will the show move forward and improve? Let’s see, but in the meantime I’m sticking with MasterChef Australia, which has a totally different approach and it’s really a delight to watch and to learn from.

yes i was too a bit disappointed…i liked the australian version better…it has some professionalism at least..and akshay couldn’t live up to it…and who are the two judges?being an Indian even i don’t know them..lol
@Manmeet Ha ha, well as per the intro they are chefs but I guess not so popular as Tarla Dalal or Sanjeev Kapoor which are more exposed to the media. This MasterChef Indian version seems to be a bit desperate for audience and rating. Thanks for commenting
yes…they are not so famous…Its all emotional things going out there…i just can’t stand it anymore…
@manmeet I guess the masses love the drama!
