Yesterday I truly understood the madness about cricket in India. I mean, it was total craziness. People do love cricket so much that all the streets were empty. I love empty streets, so I thank the cricket for this miracle ha ha. Only few women, girls and children were out there, but really most of the people were watching the game. Well it was India vs Pakistan, so it was a very sensitive kind of match for all Indians and Pakistanis.

I was never really interested in cricket, I mean first of all I didn’t know how the game was played or the rules, nothing at all. For me it was like “how they can sit so many hours watching one match?”. But this time it was different, there was a World Cup going on, and India was winning! So I started asking all about cricket and somehow now I know how the things work haha. Read More…

I woke up and my Digital TV was showing a Marathi channel instead of Star Movies, the Lok Sabha instead of HBO, was I still sleeping? Nope, all the channels were just scrambled. I called the Costumer Service and selected “English” as my language. I waited…. and waited… finally I spoke with a guy:

- My name is blah blah, may I know who is on the line? He said

- My name is Nina I said (My twitter friends suggested me to just pick any Indian name to avoid further confusions lol)

I explained my problem and then he started asking me some questions. The thing is that I was not able to understand what the heck he was saying. He was speaking in English indeed, but this wasn’t an Indian/English accent at all. It wasn’t an American or British English accent either. It was a kind of strange vocalization, I think he was trying to copy a British accent but he was doing it very bad. All I could hear was a continuous kind of  “roar” like if he had a huge chewing gum in his mouth lol. Read More…

I just saw this cute advertisement on TV. It has that nice children’s song that I like so much lakadi ki kaathi.

Lakadi Ki Kaathi Kaathi Pe Ghoda
Ghode Ki Dum Pe Jo Maara Hathauda
Dauda Dauda Dauda Ghoda Dum Utha Ke Dauda

I always like songs as they stick on my mind easily and I’m often singing them even without knowing their meaning. Read More…

I was listening to a podcast by Isolated Internationals which I found through twitter. They are a group of professionals dedicated to help global citizens with all the different kind of obstacles that they might find when moving to another country and culture.

During the podcast they mentioned something that got stuck in my head: “The Illusion of complete integration” in a different culture or society.

There were certain points mentioned:

“Complete integration in another culture is very difficult if not impossible to achieve“.

“The end destination is coping with how we are going to live in this different place”.

“We’ll always be different from the people there, no matter what”. Read More…

I like chicken very much, and of course Indian chicken is a delight. But sometimes I just crave for a different flavour, like the Latin American style of chicken and I heard of a restaurant in Delhi offering Peruvian Style Chicken in their menu. First thing I thought is that “I have to try that!” because I have tasted Peruvian chicken before and well, the expectations were high.

So I went with my husband to the “Pollo Campero” restaurant in the Connaught Place for lunch to taste their chicken. We ordered a Peruvian Grilled Chicken Meal and a Campero Fried Chicken “Picante” (spicy).

I was a bit disappointed when I received my order though. Read More…
