Yesterday I truly understood the madness about cricket in India. I mean, it was total craziness. People do love cricket so much that all the streets were empty. I love empty streets, so I thank the cricket for this miracle ha ha. Only few women, girls and children were out there, but really most of the people were watching the game. Well it was India vs Pakistan, so it was a very sensitive kind of match for all Indians and Pakistanis.
I was never really interested in cricket, I mean first of all I didn’t know how the game was played or the rules, nothing at all. For me it was like “how they can sit so many hours watching one match?”. But this time it was different, there was a World Cup going on, and India was winning! So I started asking all about cricket and somehow now I know how the things work haha.
And yesterday, for the semi – finals I got a projector to watch the game properly. This means big screen, snacks, cold drinks, good company and the hope that “hey, maybe we’ll win”.
I cannot make an analysis of the game but from my humble perspective Pakistan played well and gave a hard time to India. India won, but they could’ve done better. The funny thing was the wicket keeper of Pakistan. Gosh he was so annoying with all that shouting, he was yelling like a kabadi walla ha ha. I really don’t know how the Indians could concentrate in such a noise. At one point, India was playing so bad that I thought they were playing Gulli Danda (a rural game similar to cricket) and not cricket but later on and after so much pain, India won!
And then the madness started in the streets. The celebrations were all over India, and you could hear the sound of fireworks everywhere, almost like Diwali! So just imagine the scope of the celebrations if India wins the final this Saturday in Mumbai… wow.
Here some pics from the match:
Everyone was there. From the Gandhi family to the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan with his funny moustache and Preity Zinta. Also important Indian businessmen like Mukesh Ambani and his wife.
The other side of the match:
Celebrations going on! Check out Tendulkar, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi and the huge Indian flag.
And now, let’s all go to Mumbai?
