When I think about renewing my passport I think about going in the morning to the Immigration office with my receipt and old passport and after a quick process, getting it after a couple of hours.
Here in India the story is completely different. When an Indian citizen wants to renew or apply for his passport there’s a huge process that can easily take few months. Indian population doesn’t make things easier but at least you have the choice of applying by post, quite convenient if you are not in a hurry.
In short, what you have to do is to pay the fees with a Demand Draft or cash and fill an enormous form/booklet with thousand questions (I’m exaggerating here but it really looks like so much to write and read lol).
After that you paste your photograph, submit your application and supporting documents and simply wait for news coz if you don’t go directly to the passport office, then you will receive your passport by post. Sounds complicated already right?
Anyway, my friend needed his passport renewed and he was going to Dehradun.
Chalo? he said… Sure!, I said… And so we went.
The queue was not big, “we are lucky!” I thought… until we came in and found out a board saying something like this “The passport printing machine is out of order, we regret for the inconvenience caused – Passport Officer” Eh?… What? It seemed that the machine wasn’t working the last few days and therefore, the printing of passports was on hold.
People were meeting the Passport Officer one by one. A man came and said that he needed his passport in the next 2 days because he needed to get his visa, otherwise he will loose his job and then how he will support his wife and kids. The passport officer replied “I’m sorry, we cannot do anything”.
Wow, your job… your visa… your family… your whole life depends on that passport machine…it’s a matter of life and death… and the machine is not working.
Can you believe it? Well, believe it coz it happens only in India.

I mean it easily takes atleast a month fr the passport to b delivered if you submit it at the passport office, unless ofcourse you pay em under the Urgent tag(which takes 1week)
Oh n the Passport form n the documents to b attached..they sure r such a Confusin stuff..cn easily scare sm1 off to cancel their international trips..
Yes, for Indian citizens it take at least a month, but many people who had already applied can also get it directly at the passport office when their application is ready and complete. People who can do this usually meet the passport officer directly and get the authorization from him. I don’t know how often this happens though. Taktal process is also fast paying extra money. The process I was describing at the beginning was when I renew my passport abroad, and yes it takes only couple of hours!
Gettin ur passport renewed in a matter of few hours..Wow!! Sounds so good..!!
