Delhi Metro – A Peculiar Ride

The transport in Delhi has one thing I like, the Delhi Metro. Sometimes it’s just nice to avoid the traffic jams, auto rickshaws, cycle rikshaws, cows, etc., etc., etc.

Metro people are interesting too. The intellectual guy reading a book, the techie guy talking with his handsfree phone. Some girl tweeting or surfing the net (that would be me). Group of girls texting and laughing. The business man talking about some bank deposits, the woman doing her make up, the kids making noise, the teens sitting on the floor… So you can imagine how peculiar is the ride.

As long as you don’t have to take the metro in the peak hours, when it’s impossible to get a seat or even breathe, then everything is fine.

I find the metro very practical when I have to travel big distances alone and I don’t want to spend hundreds of rupees in taxis or auto rickshaws. I don’t mind waking from the metro station too, in fact I enjoy it. I like walking slowly watching the shops and stopping by to buy a swirl, a coffee or some snack on the way.

There are just some few things I find uncomfortable in the metro. For example when a guy is trying to read what I’m writing on my phone or tweeting. Oh, and one day a guy was taking my picture…shamelessly!

A funny thing happened one day when I was with my love but we were sitting in front of each other. Suddenly one seat was free next to me, but as we were about to go out he didn’t switch. The man next to him thought we were having a fight and was trying to convince him to sit next to me saying like don’t you wanna sit together?… ha ha ha… we giggled a lot when I came to know about what happened later.

Every metro ride is eventful, no doubt about that, and that’s why I like it.
