Doctor’s Curiosity In India

After living here for quite a bit, I have noticed that Indian people are very curious by nature. And if you are a foreigner, well that just enhances their curiosity more and more.

I try to take the questions with a sense of humor, but I really cannot handle it when I am sick and the doctors seem to be more interested in knowing my life than my illness.

What normally happens is that I go to the reception desk, give my name and of course they write it wrong. After the receptionist has registered me in the system, she just stares at me and giggle with her peer. I’m thinking… not again.

Inside, the doctor starts to speak in Hindi… I reply in English… now she will ask in English what is the problem and start writing down the list of medicines and drawing a line with circles that apparently means how many times a day you need to take them.

But of course I cannot leave the doctor’s office without the round of questions and comments:

- Where are you from?

- How come you are in India?

- You are looking so lovely today (a lady doctor use to tell me with a big smile)

- Where do you live?

- I cannot understand your tongue (I think she meant my accent lol)

- Where do you work?

And many more…

Sometimes I reply vaguely, sometimes I ask them if knowing this has any kind of relevance for the consultation. And of course it doesn’t, it’s just pure curiosity.

It would be good to be treated normally when it comes to health care you know?

Ha ha it’s not a secret, I just want to keep a low profile and don’t generate much fuss. I’m really not in the mood for questions about my personal life when I’m sick. :)

Hmmmm..right!! I guess noone is. Bt yeah..sm ppl r too curious to really care bout that at times.
Bt, i dont think such behaviour can be expected outta a well qualified doctor…..
Hmmmm…on a 2nd thot..afterall Hez an Indian too, explains the action ;)

Ha ha ha, I guess you are right :)

The doctors are tought to ask social aspect of things & co relate it with your medical problems.

Hmm, interesting way to approach a medical problem. Still they always leave me puzzled.
