India’s Independence Day is near and I want to share some of my favorite Indian food. When I first came to India I wasn’t able to eat almost anything and I thought that I will die of hunger, but slowly my palate has adjusted to the new textures and flavours and now I simply crave for some of these food.
South Indian Thali
I love South Indian food, dosas, vadas, idlis, and every dish that contains coconut milk. And the best way to treat myself with all these wonderful flavours is with the South Indian Thali. There you can get korma (yamee), rasam, sambhar, coconut chutney, bahji, dal, dahi, papad, poori/paratha, rice, and even halwa as dessert. When I was in South India I had the Thali on a banana leaf and the flavours were just amazing. You might be thinking how I can eat all that! hehe, well actually they normally serve a small amount of each and I normally order 1 thali for 2.
Aam Ka Achaar – Mango Pickle
Since one of my friends gifted me a jar of homemade mango pickle, I just became a fan of it. It was mildly spiced and I just loved that tangy taste with the masalas. One of my favorites! I want to learn how to make my own too. I love eating it with parathas, but also with anything else.
Papad
These thin crispy and crunchy kind of flat tortillas are just delicious. People normally eat them fried but I like to eat them roasted most of the time. It’s so versatile that sometimes I take it as a snack with some namkeens, salad or sauce. There’s always a package of medium masala papad at home. Read More…
