With all the controversy around the upcoming Commonwealth Games in New Delhi I could not help but to think… what is the meaning of being on time for Indians? I have the feeling that things in India work at a different pace, specially in government offices where they have a “chai break” Read More…

Yesterday night we were watching TV and suddenly found a program called Emotional Atyachaar. In this program there was one guy making a “loyalty test” to his girlfriend. What was this loyalty test about? Well, the loyalty test was to send a boy or as they say “undercover agent” on purpose to pretend that he liked the girl and ask her out for dates. What she didn’t know is that there were hidden cameras everywhere they went and everything was being recorded. On the studio this guy was watching how his girlfriend was going out with another guy and cursing a lot.
The twist was that the TV show also followed him without his notice and found out that he was having another girlfriend! Yes, this guy was having 2 girlfriends at the same time for almost 4 years and was angry coz one of them was “cheating” on him… LOL. Can you imagine? Read More…

Today I went to the market. I wanted to buy Melon and so I went to my fruit vendor as usual and stood there looking for fruits. I saw the melon and asked the price. My fruit wala said to me Rs. 20 per Kg. I was surprised because till last week he was selling the same for Rs 50 per kg. All of sudden it became 20 rupees. First I thought the Indian government has curbed the inflation which is going out of control, but then I saw that everyone was selling melon so I understood why he was selling at a cheaper price… the first thing to keep in mind when you go to the market is to never buy something when only a handful of vendors have it. When the product is with everyone all the fruits and sabji vendors sell at the same price and you get the fresh fruits and vegetables.
So I stood in front of my regular fruit vendor looking at the melon and their sizes and color. It was almost 7-8 minutes that I was looking and wondering that if it would be sweet or not… shall I buy it or not… if he is cheating me or not… I mean, those 20 rupees made me think so much because I didn’t wanted to feel fool when I returned home as most of the time I feel like that, so I was taking my time. I guess the life of most of the foreigners is more or less same in India except for those who are in a high profile position such as a country manager of some MNC, etc.
What I have realised is that mostly we have to fight to understand the mentality as well as we have to convince ourselves to adjust in the time phase. I have seen and lived a life where the infrastructure as well as the economic and social development of life is far ahead of Indian society. We have spent our childhood going to the big malls, moving in a clean metro, hanging around with friends and going out on Saturday nights with friends. But when I see the things now happening in India and I read the news that these things would be coming into India I feel like I have gone back into the time like stone age and when I visit my country I see the latest things, the new shops around the corner and I feel like this will happen in India after ten years.
Still I find very less young couples holding hands and going out on the street. If I somehow see some one I feel like “WOW” it is happening. I remember when I first came to India, I wanted to hold the hand of my husband but he said to me this is not seen as a very good gesture in India. First I was surprised and disappointed as it was the most simplest gesture of showing your affection to someone you LOVE and I couldn’t do it. I cried and felt very disappointed but now after 4 years living in India I understand what my husband meant but still I can’t handle it. Read More…

I’m melting…… Having lived a life in a very pleasant climate where the temperature is always around 20 degrees suddenly I feel like I’m in an oven. The state where I live is called the Electricity State but we have Power cut of almost 9 hours every day and that in the noon time. My husband has put the new split AC in our bedroom but what we can do if there is no power. So we got a new idea, we got a brand New Wooden Cooler from Rajasthan. That works pretty fine even in the inverter so now I can feel a little relieved.
I wanted to go to Delhi to attend the meeting at the Embassy but when I put the feet out of my home I just do not have the courage to think of going to Delhi or Any Place. I never go out before 7 P.M. Read More…

Well today is the Valentine’s day and I thought what we can what we can’t do while living in India..
The Things I Can do in India.
I can stand at the road side and eat very comfortable the Indian Fast food Like Chaat.
I can’t eat the Good sea food In North India. May be down there in Goa and South India you can find that but where I live… I guess at most of the places you can’t find the Good food.
Movies… I can’t find the good Movies with the English subtitles. So even if I like the famous SRK movies I have to download the subtitles from the internet and the movies go fast and the subtitles come later so I read some thing and the movies runs on a different scene. Sometimes the action is already gone but I read the dialogues later. so funny…
But I can find any movie for 10 Rupees.. Ha ha ha…
Wherever I go people just stare you like anything… they just keep staring at you and you really feel uncomfortable.
You can always find people taking about the weather, politics and cricket… Like they are the experts on that…
You have hell lot of crowd in the trains, buses and roads… so you don’t feel alone.
You always get the crying soap operas in the Hindi TV Channels and where the main person is the camera man who pauses the CAMERA FROM DIFFERENT POSITIONS to make the scene more dramatic. Read More…

Yesterday… I met with an amazing guy… his story seems to be an interesting story in today’s context.
While on my journey to a local temple I saw a man carrying his mother on his shoulder. I saw the picture of the same man in the Local newspaper a few days ago. So my curiosity stopped me there to have a look on him. I stopped and asked my husband to enquire if the story was true. This man is carrying his mother on his shoulder for the last 14 years.
His version says… when he was child he was very sick and once his condition was very Bad. So his mother prayed to God and said that if his son gets well and lives, she along with her son will visit all the FOUR PILGRIM PLACES OF INDIA.
Later on His mother lost her eye sights but the son decided to fullfill the promise of her mother. So he put her in a basket and since then he has taken her to almost all the South Indian temples. They stay in free rest houses or nearby temples on their journey. Read More…
