Me and the kitchen, hmm well we are not very good friends. I mean, food needs to be cooked, but the inspiration not always accompanies me. On the other hand I like experimenting and love to try new dishes all the time. I cannot imagine eating the same thing every day. Dal and chapati is just not fun enough for me. India’s Independence Day is near and I want to share some of my favorite Indian food. When I first came to India I wasn’t able to eat almost anything and I thought that I will die of hunger, but slowly my palate has adjusted to the new textures and flavours and now I simply crave for some of these food.
South Indian Thali

I love South Indian food, dosas, vadas, idlis, and every dish that contains coconut milk. And the best way to treat myself with all these wonderful flavours is with the South Indian Thali. There you can get korma (yamee), rasam, sambhar, coconut chutney, bahji, dal, dahi, papad, poori/paratha, rice, and even halwa as dessert. When I was in South India I had the Thali on a banana leaf and the flavours were just amazing. You might be thinking how I can eat all that! hehe, well actually they normally serve a small amount of each and I normally order 1 thali for 2.

Papad

These thin crispy and crunchy kind of flat tortillas are just delicious. People normally eat them fried but I like to eat them roasted most of the time. It’s so versatile that sometimes I take it as a snack with some namkeens, salad or sauce. There’s always a package of medium masala papad at home. Read More…
